“Women Facilitating Innovation in the Forest Sector – Too Easy to Be True?” – FOREST4EU Project
Our recent FOREST4EU webinar, “Women Facilitating Innovation in the Forest Sector – Too Easy to Be True?” (May 9, 2025), spotlighted the crucial role of women in fostering innovation within the traditionally male-dominated forestry sector. Speakers from projects like Fem4Forest and Fem2forests, alongside initiatives like WOFO International, emphasized that innovation in forestry extends beyond technology to encompass sustainable practices, knowledge transfer, and climate change adaptation.
Key findings highlighted the underrepresentation of women in leadership, persistent gender stereotypes, and the need for supportive networks. However, the webinar also showcased successful digital innovations in Ukraine driven by women, the potential of women-led networks to foster collaboration and empowerment, and the growing interest of young people in a reimagined, inclusive forestry sector.
The discussion concluded with a call for intersectional inclusion (WINTA*) and emphasized that true innovation requires not just access but also voice, influence, and safety for all. While progress is evident, sustained efforts are crucial to achieve meaningful structural change and fully unlock the innovative potential of women and other marginalized groups in forestry.
